Passively cooled 7600GT cards available (seems to be)
I came across this picture of the MSI GF7600GT:
http://www.msi.com.tw/images/product_im ... 2D256E.jpg
I went to their website and it seems they updated their previous picture on the 7600GT page of the card with this new one, including a red PCB version. It looks like this red card has a heat pipe on it, but there's still a small wire showing..probably a fan wire.
Also, I googled for '7600gt heat pipe' and found this:
http://www.giga-byte.com/products/VGA/P ... ce+7600+GT
Gigabyte now has two versions of the 7600GT, one actively cooled and one passively.
Anyway, did someone here know about this? Can't find any reviews or info. Does this mean vendors are finally coming up with their own tweaked versions of this card instead of delivering reference card copies?

ASUS has also announced a passive 7600GT.
Yup, I hope some reviews pop up soon.
I read in another thread on this forum that "diver" was using a Zalman passive cooling on his 7600GT and it was doing well according to him. If he's right, then at least it can be done.
Even if the completely passive versions get too hot, there's always that new MSI..it seems to use a massive cooling system with a (hopfully quieter) fan.

Found this Asus passive 7600gt product page via HueyCobra's link.

Reviews on newer passive Gigabyte's solution (aka Silentpipe II), showed that it performs better than its predecessor, whew that previous Gigabyte cooling solutions was designed by Zalman actually, I bet they paid Zalman too low on that . The Asus solution might perform better (if they reused the radiator on arm style, the major problem is space constraint. However Asus Silent solution on X1600XT looks more convenience.JVM wrote:Hasn't there been some heat problem with previous passive cards by ASUS and Gigabyte? Before we get all worked up about these new passively cooled cards, I think we'll need some user comments about how well they work passively. These 7600 GT versions are not passive by reference design.
Another passive 7600GT planned was the Galaxy one, haven't seen any yet though

Nice find, cool, Asus has revised 'The Arm' with adding secondary heatpipe&heatsink row at the backGoldmember wrote:Found this Asus passive 7600gt product page via HueyCobra's link.
Why did they made it GREEN
Thanks for posting that link, Goldmember. I was hoping the 7600GT HS would be similar to that of the EAX1600XT-SLN, as I have many reservations about the arm. It's an inelegant solution to say the least.Goldmember wrote:Found this Asus passive 7600gt product page via HueyCobra's link.
I'm game to try the Gigabyte card with Silent-Pipe II, but would otherwise probably prefer an ASUS card.
I wonder if G83 may offer even better passive performance ...
Well, this is really quick:HueyCobra wrote:Thanks for posting that link, Goldmember. "nVidia G83 GPU is expected to be released in H2. G83 is a mid range GPU and the successor to the GeForce 7600, featuring the enhancements found in the G80 core."
The Gigabyte design is very practical and tidy, although I have some lingering reservations about Silent-Pipe (probably due to this thread). I'd generally be confident in it though.gitto wrote:So out of the Asus, Gigabyte, and Galaxy designs, who do youse think has the better design?
I like the Gigabyte the most, the two-slot design looks solid and I can't imagine it will have any clearance problems (except for taking two slots of course).
It's hard to know what to make of the Galaxy card as there's almost no information about it. This is all I could find about 7600GTs on Galaxy's site; more CeBIT images are available at Digit-Life, CDRinfo and this French site, but there's still no copy yet. One thing that looks promising however is that the 7600GT heatsink radiator exits the case, which could be very beneficial temp-wise.
There are some very interesting other teasers on those pages: high-end Galaxy cards with Arctic Cooling and Zalman (e.g. VF700) coolers, and a future all-copper passive 7900GTX. I'm going to be paying a lot more attention to Galaxy from now

I haven't had any experience with Galaxy before (mainly Gainward and MSI) but I'm certainly impressed with their investment in quiet/silent cooling. Lower price is always good but how's their build quality and bundles?Weldingheart wrote:Nice find Hueycobra,
in my area Galaxy cards are pretty popular since they have relatively lower price compared to Big names and some already use zalman solution (&AC silencer for Glacier)
According to the 3 April press release, the GV-NX76T256D-RH is meant to be available now. Hopefully it doesn't take too long to spread through the chain.JVM wrote:In terms of silence, the Gigabyte Silent Pipe II looks best to me. Curiously, I saw the Gigabyte 7600 GT Silent Pipe II on the Quiet PC UK website listed as coming in a few days ago, but now that card is no longer listed on their site.
