I've owned that drive for two weeks,
it replaced my 80gb ide seagate momentus 5400.3
the samsungs idle noise is very similiar to the seagate's one
seeks are very hard to identify,
the best thing is that there's no head reloading/resetting sound,
this was very annoying with the seagate
transferrate is pretty the same,
the momentus performs a little better in terms of access time

Thats superb news thanks very much, I expect I will get one of those over the next few weeks for myself.
The Momentus 5400.3's are excelent drives and I used to think that they were perfect, but it seems that not all of the drives make the head mounting/unmounting noise. The one I have in a caddy I thought was faulty, after testing it 3 times I decided that it was just noisier than the last 2 I had used. However I have another one here, and it sound like mine, and isnt going to end up in a PC of mine.
I also used to own the previous Samsung model which was a little noisier than the 5400.3 but no nasty clicking sounds, this new Samsung looks to be ideal, and uses all fo the latest tech AND most importanly is SATA.
Thanks very much for the response.

I haven't ordered from them in years after a bad experience.andyb wrote:I have one on order now, bought from the "Tekheads" link below, I have no idea how good a service they give, I have not ordered from them before.
Should be here by Tuesday

Since then they've changed hands - bought out by a distributor (information from forums.hexus.net). Their service is also good I hear.
I have got my drive, it turned up this morning, well packaged along with a couple of webcams.
2 working day turnaround is pretty good, they quoted up to 3 days (other delivery options are available).
I thought I was going to have a nightmare, as I looked at my e-mail to see if they had shipped it, they said that there was a problem. the problem was quite simple, I had put the address of where the credit card is registered to as a wrong address.
I responded to the e-mail, nothing back from them except an automatic e-mail saying that they had recieved mine, I phoned them on Saturday morning, and left a message on their answerphone. So I was quite surprised to see the package turn up this morning.
I would use them again, they are bookmarked in SeaMonkey.
Anyway the drive has a reasonable amount of vibration compared to most laptop drives, its not really bad, but soft miounting/suspension is reccomended. The drive's seeks are audiable at 3" apart from that the drive doesnt make any noise at all.
I would say that it is even quieter than the MP0804H, and doesnt have the annoying clicks/clunks of the 5400.3 when idle.
Highly reccomended drive (its SATA BTW).
