[CES 07] P180 evolution: the P182
Antec has shown the new improved P180, the P182 @ this year's CES. The improvements include two fan speed "controllers" on the back (for the rear and top TriCool I reckon), an improved cable management and two orifices for WC tubing (see pic). Oh and it's black

It should be the same price as the P180.

P.S.: They also showed a special edition of the P182... mirror.
All black
Shiny!

Yes, I wanted to give you the honor or honour.
Anyway, the Sonata III looks lean and mean. Metal hinged door, front e-sata, front HD Audio, and a Earthwatts 500. The case is still too small for me though.
The P182 also has a P150/Solo type motherboard tray in addition to everything you already mentioned.

Damn! I always forget The Tech Lounge! They also have good coverage on these events (esp. with Antec products).
You already posted the link, so, again:

More pics and more info!
As someone who just ordered a P150 over a P180, the P182 - that's it??
Give me Silver or White over the black.
Because of the height, I would have liked the top fan eliminated, perhaps a second fan going out back.
Get rid of the door, please! and maybe a wee bit wider.
Perhaps some temperature sensors ala P160, an optional window, also ala P160W.
And fan controls on the front.

Did I miss something? Last time I checked, the P150/SOLO didn't have a motherboard tray. My SOLO certainly doesn't. The Antec site doesn't mention anything about a motherboard tray.Goldmember wrote: The P182 also has a P150/Solo type motherboard tray in addition to everything you already mentioned.

The Sonata II retails for $99 and has been as low as $49 after rebate with the P180 as low as $69 after rebate. So the fact that Antec is keeping the MSRPs the same for the Sonata III and P182 is GREAT. More value for consumers! So keep your eyes peeled and your credit card ready.Meato wrote:I might just put off a couple builds I was planning if I can pick one of those up for less than $200 US.
Aloha Bra! My Solo has a motherboard tray. It's just not removable. According to the techlounge link, Antec moved the motherboard tray to the left a little in order to stash some cables, like our beloved P150s and Solos. They even have some cable ties attached to the tray.RAFH wrote:Did I miss something? Last time I checked, the P150/SOLO didn't have a motherboard tray. My SOLO certainly doesn't. Haha. It's just a prototype. E-mail Antec and let them know if you want to see it produced.panda-R wrote:ok so when can i buy the Shiny P182!!!!
Take care.

Just a couple of days ago i was thinking of polishing my P180, and paint the insides black. After seeing that i am not sure if i like it or not, the uneven surface makes for an "interesting" distortion.
If it ever comes into production it will be expensive, yes. Antec would also most likely get a lot of complaints because people get fingerprints on it..

I'll take the black insides but you can keep that mirror finish. I like that almost enough to consider painting my internals. But without a window, who would know.
The downside to a black internals is seeing what your doing in low light. My mobo, psu, cables, and video card are all black and it's tough to see what you're doing when you're under the desk with the side off the case.

We have a "SPCR Does CES" article in the works, so I won't say too much so as to not steal all of its thunder, but let me correct a couple of things mentioned above:
- The 182 is not black. It's a titanium-gunmetal kind of color. It didn't photograph well in the lighting at Antec's Bellagio suite. Our pics didn't turn out any better than ones Techlounge or Matbe took, unfortunately.
- In addition to moving the mobo tray about 1cm further away from the back panel, they've added pass-thru's for the wiring near the optical bays and the mobo. Very handy.
- The 182 SE is probably not destined for retail sale. It's the Antec equivalent of a concept car. But if you like it, let Antec know. If there's enough public interest expressed they will make it available via retail. If it does become available, look for it to cost ~$50 more than the normal 182. The exterior is polished stainless steel with automotive clearcoat. The black interior is probably "The Next Big Thing" in high-end cases. Once you see it the "generic gray" case interior looks cheap by comparison. I'm surprised that so few other companies have done it. I'd bet that you'll start seeing it more often, particularly on windowed cases.

Have Antec revised the door mounting method for the P182 and P190 as I notice the P190 door interior shown in the photos doesn't employ those fragile little plastic hooks?Rusty075 wrote:We have a "SPCR Does CES" article in the works, so I won't say too much so as to not steal all of its thunder, but let me correct a couple of things mentioned above...
