SMP Folding@Home client
Greetings,
I want to encourage anybody with an Intel Mac or with a dual core 64bit Linux machine to run the (Beta) SMP Folding@Home client.
http://folding.stanford.edu/download.html
My brother's 17" iMac Core Duo (1.8gHz I think?) is screaming along at over 1,000 points per day. And I've now installed Ubuntu 64bit on my Athlon 64 X2 4200+ and it seems to be going at a similar pace.
There is also a GPU client that is also very fast -- it runs mainly on the newest fast ATi cards, but they may have expanded the list.
Or, if you cannot run either of these, I hope you will run one of the "regular" Folding@Home clients: the CLI is the fastest, but the GUI client is more interesting to look at. It is for an excellent cause, and I hope all of you at least consider helping out.

Good shout Neil
Makes me realise I really do need an upgrade...
I'm off to see what the sweetspot is for Dually 64's at the moment.
Anybody got a heads up on the current ATI cards?
Pete
For
P.S.Win SMP on the way!!

Hello,
I completed my first SMP work unit: it was the lowest scoring unit, 587 points, and it took my machine just under 20 hours to complete, so it is now working at 700+ PPD!
Here's a list of all the work projects:
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/psummary.html
Who is the other person who voted in the poll who is using the SMP client? Can you tell us about your setup, please?
Pete, here's the GPU FAQ:

and the GPU F@H forum:

The SMP client can also be made to work in WinXP by running a free virtual linux OS within XP, but apparently it runs 20% slower. As I don't have a dual core CPU I can't try this, but there's detailed instructions on how to do it HERE!
Anyone wants to try it and report back?

Hello,
I only know what I read about the GPU client -- have you tried it? It is supposed to be very fast -- I thought that your comment meant that you were already using it.
Here's a link to the GPU user forum.
