I just tried to pull that S1 out of my monitor! Sadly that didn't work..

Review of PowerColor Radeon X1950 PRO SCS3 here - rather confusingly, the heatsink is stated as being the S2 even though it has four heatpipes.

Bottom line: 1) it works 2) it's rather large...

What can I say, I am damned impressed.

So I know that originally the S2 was supposed to support the 7800 series, and now it appears that will be the S1.

But I don't see anything with respect to AGP vs PCI-e? Specifically the 7800GS AGP series...

anyone have the insider info?

I think AGP would depend on getting a separate HSI heatsink and whether or not that would interfere with the heat pipes. Different AGP cards have the HSI in wildly different places, so it's a bit hard to say. Zalman do a HSI heatsink though, so it's not inconceivable.

Not so sure about the AGP/PCI-E problems with this Heatsink.

They mention the x800 series as compatable and they are available in AGP, wheras other cards that are listed are PCI-E, so I dont think that their will be any major problems.

I ran across this today...
inno3d I Chill Series

These cards claim to use Arctic Cooling Accelero s1m coolers.

They appear to be "shorter" than the s1 coolers pictured earlier in this thread. I'm hoping that the s1m model is indeed a different model that will fit inside of spcr's favorite htpc case.

If these cards are hdcp compliant, I'll be first in line to purchase one.

or if it's even available retail? Oh well... I guess I'll go for thermalright HR-03? Twice as expensive though... sigh

From the press release:

Accelero S2 will be available by end of March 2007.

I'd like to know if this is compatible with an X1650 Pro AGP card. I cannot find a good passive heatsink that is compatible with it, and this one looks promising.

I just bit the bullet and bought the Powercolor passive X1950pro which uses the S2. Should serve my needs for quite some time, and with any luck the S2 will be detachable and can be reused down the road (although by then it will probably be obsolete...

).

P.S. I love that the S2 only uses one extra slot. Watch and learn, Thermalright!

I'd love to get S1. 7800gtx's stock cooler started making some funny side noises, so I wouldn't mind a passive solution...

I just wanted to pop in and say that those reviews of the passive X1950pro were 100% accurate. I installed mine yesterday, and it idles under 40C!!! That's even better than my previous 7600GT with a VF900! I have yet to see a temp over 60C, even when playing Oblivion. This is one bad-ass cooler!

Ah, yes, sorry. I misread and thought you bought the S2 separately.

How are you dealing with the heat buildup? Is regular case airflow enough for your liking?

Heat buildup seems under control. I gained a few C on my CPU temps, but they're stable. GPU temps come down pretty quick once I exit a game. You can see my full system specs over here:

Decided to return the x1950pro because it was covering 2 of my SATA ports. But I'm pretty sure that was the S1 on it, not the S2. The S2 should be shorter -- if it's ever released... it's well past late March by now...

FYI, I emailed Arctic Cooling a few days ago asking when the S1 and S2 will be available, and got no reply whatsoever. I also emailed Newegg asking when they expect to have them in stock, and they said "Unfortunately there is no information on those items." Not lookin' good... why is it so hard for Arctic Cooling to set a date and stick to it?

Finally got an email today -- Accelero S2 should be available by the end of this month. Also, apparently Arctic Cooling has been moving their offices, and that's why they haven't been responding to emails. That's certainly forgivable.
