SPCR forum dwellers that would like to see a review of the Titan Fenrir, please make a donation to sponsor such a review.
SPCR already has the Fenrir and almost half of the money needed for a review of it, so it shouldn't be too hard to gather the other half.
If you want to know more about the Titan Fenrir, please have a look here (actually, this is the bling edition of the Fenrir, but cooling should be the same):

ADMIN EDIT: donation amt by Tzupy - $100 + $50 for sample; there's only another $50 to reach the $200review target.

The Titan tests out well at Frostytech.com.
http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.c ... 383&page=5
It compares well against the Prolimatech:
http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.c ... 481&page=6
It would be nice to see an SPCR test of it. As well as a test of the Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme which according to Frostytech outperforms even the Noctua D14 with less noise.
Dumb question. If SPCR already has the Titan, what else does it need to buy in order to test it?

There are other things more interesting than yet another boring run of the mill "looks the same as 1000 others" heatsink?MikeC wrote:comments?
If I had the money I'd donate for something far useful, like a cheap and quiet power supply, case in point: Be Quiet L7 (the CX400 is too noisy and the Nexus Value is too expensive and hard to find).

I'd go along with that comment.rpsgc wrote: There are other things more interesting than yet another boring run of the mill "looks the same as 1000 others" heatsink?
I'd be much more interested in a review of the new Seasonic S12 II Bronze 520W psu (or it's modular equivalent). It had a very good review on JonnyGuru.
An affordable medium power quiet psu of that quality has to be of interest to quite a few people?

If you don't want to wait for a sample/review through spcr's usual sources, go ahead, nominate the item for review w/ a donation.judge56988 wrote:I'd go along with that comment.

Good point. I went ahead and bought the power supply mentioned in my earlier post. It cost much less than the $300 for testing here. If it's no good I can e-bay it for probably 80% of what I paid for it.lm wrote:I'm puzzled - with $200 you could just buy a Titan fenrir yourself, try it out, and if not happy then still have money for yet another cooler or even two. May I ask what's the point of donating that much by yourself???
Much as I value this site's reviews, I think that this scheme can only work properly if lots of people donate small amounts each, which I'm sure was the intention.
There are a couple of things I have to clarify:
- the choice of Titan Fenrir: it has already received good reviews and it comes from an underdog, not from an established player in quiet computing.
- I would never be able to test a heatsink as thoroughly as SPCR does, and I also don't have the time to do it.
- I wanted to donate money to SPCR in a more personal manner. Frankly, about 50% of the SPCR reviews, for various reasons, are of little interest to me.
- the idea of donating for reviews is indeed of lots of people donating relatively small sums each, but even when only 50$ remained till the target, interest seemed stagnant.
- if the first review performed on this basis goes through, then I hope others will feel more inspired to contribute to SPCR in this form.

FWIW I never saw this thread or the FAQ about donations. The closest thing to this I last saw was the blocking advertisements thread.MikeC wrote:it's surprising that no one else is wiling to donate for this review. the target is only $50 away. comments?
The only way I knew this existed at all was when I read the review today.
If I'm any indication of the typical SPCR member you'll have to add an entry to the front page linking to the donation FAQ and the forums where these threads will be.
I still haven't read the rest of the thread but I'm going to guess that a lot of people had no idea the option existed.
FWIW my normal SPCR pattern is to look for new articles on the main page then browse the bottom right section with recent posts from the forum. I almost never go to a specific forum. The most common reason for me to manually go to a specific forum is if searches show no existing thread for a new piece of hardware and I want to start the thread myself.
If the donation threads are in their own forum I may just add another SPCR bookmark to my browser.

I'm in the same boat, I just heard about this new feature when reading the review. It's an interesting idea too, I'm not aware of any other sites that let readers push reviews through like this. It's generally down to whatever manufacturers submit(as far as I can tell).dhanson865 wrote:The only way I knew this existed at all was when I read the review today.MikeC wrote:it's surprising that no one else is wiling to donate for this review. the target is only $50 away. comments?

Even worse for me. Wouldn't have read the review (of some tower heatsink like mentioned above) but happened to see this in the forum topics sidebar this morning.
What about the usual donating setup? Does that affect reviews at all, like if a specific item is at 75/100 and you get a general donation of 25 will that be enough?
