Hullo,
A little while ago, relying heavily on advice from this forum, I put together a new computer in a Fractal Design Define R4 case. It's a wonderfully quiet computer, except for the hard drive. I have a WD Red 2 TB drive, and it's giving off a lot of noise and vibration when seeking.
I've seen the page on suspending your hard drive here, but I just wanted to check in before doing that. Is a distinct sound and vibration normal for a hard drive attached to the drive cage in a Define R4 case? Or is this indicative of a problem with the drive itself? I don't want to silence the symptoms if it means I'm heading for a catastrophic drive failure all unaware.

I had some seek noise show up - but it turned out to be something pressed against the HDD transmitting the noise. Check your drive for clearance/reseat it in the cage. My Red 2GB is wonderfully quiet. I can hear the seek if I pay close attention/put my ear up to the case.

Thanks, I'll double-check that.

Suspending the drive really helps with the seek noise.

What you can also try, is loosen up the screws a bit. To tight will deminish the effect of the rubbers between the HDD and the trays.
