Actually, i5-4210U has a 15W TDP which does not allow passive cooling.

Thanks for pointing me out that.
Another question, if I can take the liberty.
Is it safe to assume that the Acer ES1-511 (or ES1-512) is fanless, given that its smaller sibling ES1-111 is actually so?
Last but not least, with reference to your december 2014 list, AFAIK the Toshiba Satellite C50-A-1JU should be EOL.

Re: List of fanless laptops
Appears the OP is no longer updating the list at the top of the thread, and soricx's list is the most up-to-date complete list.
One thing forum software does not excel at tidy organization of data. Right now our fanless laptop data is scattered around various posts in this thread.
More ideal might be a single document/file (like a wiki page, for example) that any SPCR member can edit. Easy to link to and keep tidy. Also would lessen the burden on any single member/mod/SPCR-editor to maintain the list. Just an idea.

Re: List of fanless laptops
Hi,
you can find here
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Aspir ... 058.0.html
that Acer ES1-511 is not fanless despite using a n2930.
The list is not updated with EOL laptops, since the goal is to make the list as exhaustive as we can. Don't forget these laptops are available on second hand market.

Thanks: can you kindly point me out any info/review about the Acer Aspire ES1-311 or the ASUS P553MA (to know whether they are fanless or not: Google's search quality is worsening more and more over time)?

On the other hand some quoted mainstream laptops are actually unavailable (like the Toshiba, or the Dell Inspiron 15 3531) and apparently they haven't been replaced by any current model, so IMHO that's an info which should be present in the list.

Re: List of fanless laptops
Which is why I suggest using a groupware approach to host and maintain the list (per my message a few posts up). Does anyone like that idea?quest_for_silence wrote:On the other hand some quoted mainstream laptops are actually unavailable (like the Toshiba, or the Dell Inspiron 15 3531) and apparently they haven't been replaced by any current model, so IMHO that's an info which should be present in the list.
Re: List of fanless laptops
I think it's a really good idea to make a centralized and updated list of fanless laptop.

2015 Macbook. Core M processor, 12" 1440p display, and a single interface port (Type-C USB).

Yep. This is really nice. The logic board is tiny! The new butterfly key mechanism is interesting. The idea of reducing key wobble is something I like.CA_Steve wrote:2015 Macbook. Core M processor, 12" 1440p display, and a single interface port (Type-C USB).
Not sure how I feel about needing an adapter plugged in for the ports, but I suppose most folks just don't use many wired accessories with a notebook that often.

I'm already hell annoyed that my macbook air doesn't have 2 thunderbolt ports so I can run two monitors (of course the 2014 model didn't get displayport 1.2).

Re: List of fanless laptops
I'm sure the vast majority of MacBook Air users don't run any external monitors, let alone two. And I'm guessing Apple thinks their customers prefer to use iCloud instead of USB drives and SD card readers that need physical connections. Apple isn't thinking about us geek types when they design these products.Cistron wrote:I'm already hell annoyed that my macbook air doesn't have 2 thunderbolt ports so I can run two monitors (of course the 2014 model didn't get displayport 1.2).
Re: List of fanless laptops
Yes, I'm sure Apple wants me to buy all those things. I could probably run 3 external monitors if I just threw money at it and purchased their thunderbolt displays. But then I'd have two perfectly functional 22-inchers for the landfill. Restricting use-case scenarios is just annoying, because one cannot foresee all eventualities.toronado455 wrote:I'm sure the vast majority of MacBook Air users don't run any external monitors, let alone two. If I had a choice, I would have taken a linux laptop ... slim market for ultra-portables. With all their pious claims about being green, the planned obsolescence the company exudes tells me otherwise. I hate that.
Re: List of fanless laptops
Talking about planned obsolescence, most Core M laptops/convertibles/tablets released since last year are fanless designs, but I am yet to find one that has user removable battery, not to mention one that has both user removable battery and upgradable SODIMM RAM.
This frustrating phenomenon of planned obsolescence is forcing me to focus on desktops as the durable computing device, with laptops and smart phones as disposable consumption that I am less willing to spend money on.

Maybe there will be in the future. http://liliputing.com/2015/03/click-arm ... ition.htmlshaoyu wrote:I am yet to find one that has user removable battery
Just don't count on it being less expensive.

My review of the Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140 (Core M fanless):

Thanks for referencing the site rainriverfractalfox.rainriverfractalfox wrote:There's a list of fanless laptops, tablets and 2-in-1's here: http://www.umpcportal.com/fanless/
It's a basic list but I wanted to improve it and get some more detailed focus on this emerging area of silent, powerful laptops. If there's anything you'd like to see in terms of a list, let me know.
Meanwhile, let me just point out that at the bottom of the list is a link for "Click to compare all the above devices." It opens up an interactive list that can be sorted which might help those of you looking for specific features.
I'm considering adding headless PCs to the database but won't be looking at anything that weighs above 2.8 pounds because I focus on mobilty.
Regards to all.
Chippy.

Indeed, would be interesting to know. Have you found anything meanwhile?quest_for_silence wrote:Thanks: can you kindly point me out any info/review about the Acer Aspire ES1-311 or the ASUS P553MA (to know whether they are fanless or not: Google's search quality is worsening more and more over time)?
Eg, how fanny could be a
ES1-311 13.3" N3540 QC/ Intel HD
?

No (sorry for the late answer): eventually I bought an HP 250 G3.

With which processor? Is it fanless? How about the HDD noise?quest_for_silence wrote:eventually I bought an HP 250 G3.

It is the one with the quad Bay-Trail N3540 and it is fanless.
I can't say anything meaningful about the stock HDD as I didn't use it (I swapped it for a Crucial SSD immediately).

Was it hard to replace HDD? I saw that you have to remove the keyboard (and others) to get to the HDD.

Re: List of fanless laptops
Anyone know if the HP 250 G4 (with Braswell processors which have 6 TDP and 4 TDP) is fanless (like the G3 and G2 models)?
Any other fanless 15" ones that are not mentioned here?

Re: List of fanless laptops
How is your loading times of web pages nowadays? Mine was fine after just having got it (and chaning to SSD), but is now terrible. Mere info here.soricx wrote:I've bought the HP 250 with N3510, I can confirm it's absolutely fanless.
The harddisk is noisy. The laptop itself has a cheap look.
The processor is good for a sound player, and much more: no lags in windows seven and everything is fast enough.
All in all, I'm very happy with it !
